Kay Beauty is killing it with their launches. I’ve been loving their Matte Compacts and Matte Drama lipsticks a lot. I was eyeing their latest Kay Beauty Hydrating Foundation when the brand kindly sent over four shades for review. Being a girl with dry skin, I crave anything hydrating. I feel like the Indian market is quite saturated with matte foundations and it’s about time we start getting more hydrating foundations because it makes your skin look GREAT! I am not even exaggerating.

Kay Beauty Hydrating Foundation Review
Ingredients:
Packaging
The Kay Beauty Hydrating Foundation comes in a sleek glass bottle with a white pump. The packaging reminds me of Fenty Beauty foundation but with the signature Kay Beauty logo engraved on it. Overall, I do like the design and quality. I’d suggest you not throw away the outer packaging because it’s layered with a foam material and will be great for travelling purposes. The cap is very sturdy and not at all flimsy. For Rs.1200, the packaging does give off a high-end feel to it.
Swatches & Shades
Kay Beauty Hydrating Foundation comes in 20 shades with different undertones. I’ve received the following shades:
- 120Y Light – Yellow Undertones for Light Skin Tones
- 145N Medium – Neutral Undertones for Medium Skin Tones
- 170Y Tan – Yellow Undertones for Tan Skin tones
- 195N Deep – Neutral Undertones for Deeper Skin Tones
Since I have been staying a lot at home, hence I am paler than in previous years. So my perfect shade is 120Y Light. But sometimes I do mix 1 pump of 145N Medium to gives a nice bronzed look.
The Formula
The foundation has a hydrating, creamy formula. It is formulated with Avacado Oil, Olive Oil, Mango Butter, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E, which are all great for providing a hydrated look. I love how easy-to-blend and lightweight the formula is that gives a velvet-matte finish, sets in few seconds for a transfer-proof look.
They blend seamlessly with a brush and a beauty sponge. If you want lighter coverage, go for a sponge. Once it’s set, I’d recommend you to use either their Matte Compact or any Loose Setting Powder.
Coverage & Longevity
It’s a sheer to medium coverage foundation. You can definitely layer it for extra coverage but I’d only recommend you to layer it once. I love how it looks quite skin-like and gives a nice glow.
The foundation lasts for about 6-7 hours on it’s own. By using a primer, loose powder and setting spray, it does extend it’s lasting power.
Does It Oxidize?
It oxidize a little so it would be best to get a shade match closer to your skin tone.
My Final Thoughts:
I am very impressed with this Kay Beauty Hydrating Foundation. It has become my favourite drugstore foundation at the moment. Usually, other dewy foundations tend to transfer a little but it’s not the case here. It gives a nice sheen but does set quickly for a transfer-proof look. The foundation does not feel heavy at all, gives a nice sheer to medium coverage which is totally apt for an everyday look.
Even without a primer, it does not settle into my pores and blurs them. But if you have huge pores and uneven texture on your skin, I’d recommend that you use a smoothening primer. I’ve used my ELF Putty Primer. It is suitable for people with oily as well as dry skin types. If you have oily skin, use a mattifying primer or a matte setting spray. As for people with dry skin, if you have dry patches, make sure to prep your skin with hydrating skincare and a smoothening primer.
I’m happy that an Indian Beauty Brand has finally broken the shade range barrier, it’s a small range while comparing to other western brands but a welcoming change for the Indian market. Kay Beauty is killing it with its makeup range. This Kay Beauty Hydrating Foundation checks all the claims. I highly recommend this foundation to anyone searching for a skin-like sheer-to-medium coverage foundation that lasts throughout the day.
